Festival Started in Rajshahi University

One
of the largest debate festivals of the country started
through auspicious function in Rajshahi University (RU)
today.
On the occasion of the festival, students of the
higher educational institutions of Rajshahi are
celebrating with much enthusiasm.
8-day
debate festival titled as Youth and Culture started
auspiciously at 08.30 am in the Anthropolgy Gallery in
the campus. Vice Chancellor of Rajshahi University Prof
Dr M Altaf Hossain inaugurated the festival. Mass
communication oriented development organization CCD
Bangladesh, its co-organization Bangladesh Advanced Students
Alliance (BASA) and Youth Voice organized the
competition for the first time in Rajshahi. British
Council and Connecting Futures supported the festival.
In
the inauguration function, speakers called upon students
to be active citizen through practicing open knowledge
and folk culture and they said the young generation has
to acquire leadership quality for the development of the
country and nation. They have to be involved in service
of suffering people for their betterment. Presided over
by S M A Kader, Editor of the Dainik Barta and Chairman
of CCD Bangladesh, the function was addressed by
Director of TSCC of RU Prof Dr Abdur Rahman Siddiquee,
renowned debater and TV personality Abdun Noor Tushar
and President of Bangladesh Debate Federation (BDF)

A H M Abdul Hai, BASA Organizer A S M Anisur Rahman Litu
and Nibedita Roy presented welcome address in the
function.
Later
on over five hundred members of BASA and Youth Voice and
debaters took part in the colorful rally, which paraded
the main thoroughfares of the campus. After the rally, a
training workshop on parliamentary debate began with the
technical support of BDF. Renowned debater and TV
personality Abdun Noor Tushar, President of Bangladesh
Debate Federation (BDF) Bulbul Hasan and Program Officer
of CCD Bangladesh Mahfuzur Rahman Mishu facilitated the
training workshop. Members of Youth Voice rendered
enchanting folk cultural performance in the evening.
Parliamentary debeta competition will start from
tomorrow in Law Gallery of RU.
A
total of 76 debating teams of Rajshahi University (RU),
Rajshahi Govt. College, Rajshahi University of
Engineering and Technology (RUET), Rajshahi Medical
College and other higher educational institutions are
taking part in the festival.
