Mass media and journalists can play significant role in creating enabling environment for democratic practice and establishing good governance and human rights in Bangladesh.
Chief of Party of Leaders of Influence (LOI) of The Asia Foundation Russell Pepe said it while addressing the inauguration ceremony of the 2-day orientation course of journalists started in Rajshahi on Monday. He also said, media people are one of the influential professionals of a society. So active involvement of journalists and positive media coverage are immensely needed for successful and effective implementation of all development works. Bangladesh Centre for Development, Journalism and Communication (BCDJC) with the support of USAID and The Asia Foundation arranged the orientation course under Leadership of Influence (LOI) Program. Knowledge centre CCD Bangladesh locally supported the 2-day orientation course held at the conference room of Rajshahi Chamber of Commerce and Industries.
Deputy Chief of Party Nazrul Islam, Joint Director of BCDJC Muhammad Nurul Hasan, Coordinator of Capacity Building Program of CCD Bangladesh Sarder Mohiuddin and Program Officer Mahfujul Hoque Sagor facilitated different working sessions in the course.
During the orientation course, participant journalists visited HIV/AIDS prevention activities of SMC-Surokhha and health services of Surjer Hashi Chinnhito Clinic of Tilottoma supported by USAID and experienced much on the issues.
A total of 54 journalists of different national and regional news media working in Rajshahi, Chapai Nawabgonj, Natore, Naogaon, Joypurhat and Pabna districts are taking part in the orientation course.
