CCD Achieved Global Media Award

Knowledge centre CCD has been honored with Global Media AIDS Initiative (GMAI) Award for its significant contribution in creating mass awareness on HIV/AIDS in Bangladesh through radio programs.

Asia Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) gave this important award to CCD under ABU-MAE Project. With the support of US based international development organization Henri J. Kasser Foundation, Asia Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) provides Global Media AIDS Initiative Award. This award is offered mainly to encourage media organizations and institutions to play effective role in creating mass awareness on HIV/AIDS in the world.

Asia Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) asked for ideas from media organizations of different countries on AIDS reports, documentary and other programs for the award in April 2008. In response to the call, a number of media organizations of different countries submitted their ideas on AIDS reports, documentary and other programs for the award. A high level panel of judges evaluated the submitted program ideas and finally selected 10 organizations for the award. CCD was selected for the award in radio program production and broadcasting category.

CCD will get one Thousand US dollar as prize money under this Global Media AIDS Initiative (GMAI) Award. With this money, CCD has taken initiative to produce and broadcast series of radio programs on the occasion of World AIDS Day 2008. Broadcasting of these series programs through Rajshahi Radio Station will start on 23 October.

Notably, in order to promote mass awareness raising and preventive activities on HIV/AIDS, CCD has been implementing communication, campaign and advocacy programs for AIDS prevention since 2002. As a part of the AIDS prevention program, CCD broadcast a series of radio programs on `Safe If Known’ from Rajshahi Radio Station in 2004 and 2005. CCD achieved this award mainly for production and broadcasting of these radio programs on HIV/AIDS issues.
