Radio Program on Floating Sex Workers Broadcasted from Rajshahi Radio Station

A special radio program titled “Their Story” with the active participation of the deprived and neglected floating sex workers and representatives of the organizations with them has broadcasted through Rajshahi Radio Station at 08 pm on 27 November.

Mass communication oriented knowledge centre CCD Bangladesh has taken this initiative of broadcasting this program on the occasion of World AIDS Day 2008. This program is being broadcast at 08 pm on every Thursday through Rajshahi Radio Station (105 KHz) under the award program of Asia Pacific Broadcasting Union.

The program has broadcasted on 27 November was mainly on the perspective of the floating sex workers of Bangladesh. The reasons of the vulnerability of the street based sex workers for HIV/AIDS and the duties to make them free of AIDS risk have been discussed in details in the program. Executive Director of HIV/AIDS and STD Alliance of Bangladesh (HASAB) Dr Najnin Akter, Team Leader of AIDS Prevention Project of Centre for Development Services (CDS) Dr Motiur Rahman, Manager of PIACT Bangladesh Rajshahi Drop-In-Center Azizur Rahman and some street based sex workers actively took part in this radio program. The listeners can win attractive prizes through taking part in the quiz competition based on this program.

Organizer of Women’s Empowerment Network (WEN), co-organization of CCD, Ayesha Siddika Onu anchored the program. Sound Editor of CCD Munir Reza Al Rumi as well as Director of CCD and renowned media personality G M Mourtoza respectively edited and produced the program. Coordinator of Youth Leadership Program of CCD Arafat Ali Siddik, Program Organizer Mostafijur Rahman Goni and Coordinator Jannatul Ferdous Ruhi presented interview and reports in the radio program.
