‘What does it mean to be an ally?’
The feminist movement has been active in Bangladesh for quite some time but even now, the youth feel that the nation still has a long way to go to achieve gender equality. Mostly women engage in such conversations and express their opinions. However, men are important actors who need to be involved and should participate actively to achieve the goal of a gender equal world.
WOW – Women of the World is arranging a panel discussion in the upcoming WOW Bangladesh Virtual Chapter 2022, where such issues will be discussed. We have invited Dr. Rumana Dowla (Founder of Bangladesh Palliative and Supportive Care Foundation), Naveed Mahbub (Columnist, Founder and CEO of Naveed’s Comedy Club), Sharmin Rahman (Head of Corporate Brand and Engagements in Grameenphone), Sabeena Akhtar, (Writer/Editor and Senior Programmer at the WOW Foundation) to talk about how men can be allies in contesting gender discrimination, and inequality of rights and privilege, as well as encourage other men by challenging them. Sakib Bin Rashid (Consultant in 10-minute school and development professional) will be moderating this panel discussion.
